Yard and Garden
It was great listening to Richard Heflebower, Horticulture Resources Agent for USU, give us tips on keeping our shrubs, lawns, and gardens in great shape. November is a great time to fertilize lawns and get them ready to look great again in the Spring. Weeds were discussed and the enjoyment of dealing with them each summer. The ‘sleeping bag’ approach to Palms trees is not recommended as Palm trees don’t exhort their own heat, so covering them does nothing. Putting Christmas lights on them will help keep them warmer even if others think you just don’t want to put down your Christmas lights later in the winter. If anyone would like to be added to Richard’s e-newsletter, let him know by e-mailing him at rick.h@usu.edu

Veterans Day Parade
The Exchange Club had a great time participating in the St George Veterans Day Parade even though it was a little chilly. We handed out hundreds of flags to those who came out to the parade. Thank you to those who serve and sacrifice that our country may have the freedoms we cherish!

October Students of the Month
All the students that are honored throughout the year are seniors and are recognized for their scholastic achievements, community involvement, and leadership at their respective school. One student from the eight students honored from each high school throughout the school year as a Student of the Month will have the opportunity to become Student of the Year from their school and receive a college scholarship to the college of their choice from the St. George Exchange Club. The following students were recognized for their outstanding contributions to their schools and selected as the October 2012 Student of the Month by the St. George Exchange Club: Jessica Peterson (PVHS), Kaleb Caplin DHHS, Shalynne Seegmiller (DHS), Madeline Berger (SCHS), and Kadan Holt (MHS).
