Southern Utah has one of the most diverse areas to be adventurous in the outdoors. Travis Cottam from Adventure Plus spoke about many things to do in Southern Utah such as Scuba Diving, Canyoneering, skim boarding, and more. After the many years of Scuba Diving, Travis still has a new experience every time he goes into the water. He offers classes in order to become certified for scuba diving. Everyone should enjoy the outdoors this area has to offer!

Chief Jeff Schultz
We had the honor of hearing from Chief Deputy Jeff Schultz this morning. He explained his background and why he decided to work in the Correctional Facilities. One of many intriguing stories was in regard to the garden the purgatory inmates do. Although the land was called ‘purgatory land’ because of the poor soil that doesn’t allow for gardens to grow, the purgatory inmates take such good care of the garden that it has flourished. The garden provides enough vegetables for all the meals at Purgatory plus some. Chief Deputy Jeff Schultz runs a great operation and sets the standard very high for purgatories in Utah.

Freedom Shrine Dedication
What a great turnout we had for the Freedom Shrine Dedication and Give Me Liberty Program at the New St. George Airport. There was approximately 75 in attendance, including the City Mayor, most of the City Council, other City Representatives, and the Santa Clara Elementary 5th Grade class with their parents. The 5th grade students presented the ‘Give Me Liberty Program’, Mayor McArthur spoke for a minute, then we did the dedication. We live in a great country and are truly blessed to have the freedoms we have. Thanks to everyone who made this dedication an unforgettable experience.

School of Life
The School of Life Foundation is committed to the social, moral, and character development of youth. Jeff Sherman from School of Life Foundation discussed the importance of reaching out to the Youth. Youth are put down too often and deal with negativity frequently. We need to never stop believing in them. As Jeff said “Revel in the achievement of others. Make it a big deal! Celebrate it!”. Don’t stand on the sidelines and assume somebody else will help out another person who is struggling, be that person who lifts them up. A good way to begin each day with success is to read a quote or article that is positive, then make your bed every morning. That way, as Jeff put it, you have already started off the day succeeding at something. It may seem small, but you completed a task that should have been done. Otherwise, you fail twice because you didn’t make your bed in the morning and you go to bed that night knowing you didn’t make your bed.

Images of Faith
Although Lynne Clark went through many health struggles, she was able to complete ‘Images of Faith’ which has pictures and history of the Southern Utah Region that have rarely been seen or heard. The trials and struggles the early settlers went through are unbelievable and are depicted in-depth throughout Lynne’s incredible work in her book. As Lynne put it, St. George used to be a place early settlers dreaded, and today it has become a destination location to live thanks in large part to the settlers of this region and their efforts to make Southern Utah inhabitable. The work put into ‘Images of Faith’ is incredible. Thank you Lynne!

SouthWest Vision
Our fellow Exchangite, Dr. Ryan Robison, discussed issues with the eyes and made all of us cringe a few times when he went into detail about how to deal with various issues of the eye. St. George is a very dry climate and can cause some issues with dry eyes, so Dr. Robison mentioned ways to relieve dry eyes. Other things were mentioned, but no need for further details. All that matters is Dr. Robison and SouthWest Vision have a great team that can take care of your eyes’ needs.
